The symbols are all in place; we just have to figure them out.

So I was thinking today; the gap between the rich and the poor. The rich get richer, while the poor die trying. I was strolling through a mall today (what a weird place to go, people in the mindset that if they don't buy something in that trip, it was a trip wasted) and I couldn't help but think why I was always so disgusted with consumerism. Ironically it is a life I am submerged in, subdued since birth. I accept the cycle's guidelines and live very diligently inside the cycle. I work 40 hours to make money, conserve money, spend money. But what makes me disgruntled about our lifestyle is our obsession with money. I tend to look forward into the future and try to see what my mindset will be in 10 years. A lot will change; I will become that safe driver who abides to the rules of the road like a muted prisoner. I will be joyous during holidays and sleeping early; the terms and conditions of applying to be an adult. I hope I never contract that disease for money; the blinded belly-hungry drone inching towards the blinding light, unaware of its destination. That’s why people aren’t happy today, they’re blinded by something and they can’t get rid of it. All you have to do is step beyond the line, you’ll see the other side.
We don’t need furniture for 1000s of dollars or cars for 300000s of dollars. We can survive and function well with a car that gets you from point A to point B.
Rich people use A/C, poor people roll down their windows.
We always want what we don’t have, that’s whats stupid with human beings, our appetites are insatiable.
I sometimes wonder why I am integrated into the system, why I have to abide by the 'laws of the road.' Why the American Dream was sung in melodies burned into my brain, why we have been raised to seek only one thing.
I mostly ponder about their lifestyle, not them as human beings. Just the fashion of spending money, the unnecessary luxuries that people find necessary in their money-oriented worlds. When we are busy shopping down aisles spending thousands of dollars on possessions we don't need, poor people are starving and hopeless. How can we just stand around with wads of money in our pockets doing nothing? We are all capable of making changes, but how far will we take that? How far will we really try to help the less fortunate?
Is it a marketing scheme?
Because these days it usually is...
We should be spending only the money that we need in moderation and give the rest to charity. But people are out for their own right? It's that idealistic inside that's creeping out again, swallowing the realist whole, digesting every bit of its entity.

So the conclusion? There is none. The battle between Good and Evil will wage on indefinitely until past-the-end-of-time. The battle will never end; that is what keeps the world spinning on its axis, how things live and die. The rich will always tower over the poor. The cycle is obvious, we just can't take the symbols for granted now. With clarity comes the calling for change, we can't just sit around and act stupid. The symbols, they mean something, so we reach further.

i feel this post. i have to quickly figure out what the next step for me is after graduation- a way to avoid the need to sleep early, or a rewarding reason to be awake in the morning..
they roll down their windows in korea too! hope all is well in the oc :)
i use to think consumerism is evil. in a way i pity the concept now. it brings people a false sense of satisfaction, something superficial and fleeting. to be able to recognize this and still be submerged into it is notable, keeping the original intent true.
and i roll down my windows as well. i guess i know what category i fall under.
"why we have been raised to seek only one thing."
its true!
consumerism may or may not be evil. it's just unfortunate to see people fall into that trap. without consumerism we wouldn't have luxuries such as a computer to blog with, but consumerism makes us feel that even what we have is inadequate, even though many people in the world will never save up enough money to purchase a computer.
wut i worry the most about is this cycle we are under, this rat race. consumerism is an idea that people are following under, it is possible to switch the emphasis otherwise, though difficult.
i think the importance people put on consumerism is evil. its all superficial and every purchase leaves us unsatisfied and wanting more. kinda like crack. haha
Spending only what we need is too vague. Everyone is handed a set of circumstances in which they are to make the best of. If they do well, they are entitled to enjoy life as their means permit.
Expecting people to do otherwise, to expect them to live a life of self-denial is just as illusory as the lifestyle you condemn.
