Evils of the world are all crowded around me

We agree and realize that there are horrific problems in our world, we cannot look blindly anymore and pretend to not see:

1. The 'sanctity' of marriage
2. Nuclear missiles
3. Oil dependency
4. The diamond industry
5. Off-shore drilling
6. Nuclear proliferation
7. Water shortage
8. Gap between the rich and poor
9. Religious involvement in the State
10. Fear from the media
11. Wasting technology
12. Becoming dependent on material things
13. Hunger
14. Auto industry scams
15. Monopolies and conglomerates
16. Nuclear waste
17. Russia
18. Sweatshop labor
19. Diminishing attention span
20. Racism
21. Watching TV too much
22. Using the internet for too long
23. Believing everything we hear
24. Ozone
25. Middle East
26. USA always needs to be #1
27. Oil controls the government
28. Cell phone battery waste
29. Cigarettes, caffeine, and MSG
*30. Neo-colonialism

Analog television will die on February 17, 2009,
so thus R.I.P. Analog.

In World Bank we Trust.

i think it's funny you mentioned the world bank as i just watched a documentary of how the world bank and the international monetary fund guise their purposes as humanitarian but really just force developing nations to open themselves up and become vulnerable and corruptible to western corporations. i would probably list big businesses as one of the evils. the fact that companies have a higher GDP than many countries.

In regards to #3, #4, #5, #8, #12, #14, #15, # 18, #26 - #30 (quite possibly all of these): the unfortunate truth is that behind the face of all these problems, the proliferation of economic importance makes $$$ the main culprit. As you know there is a price tag behind everything in life. The problem is not finding a solution, but rather will we band together and make a stand?

1) Agree.
2) Necessary evil.
3) The United States needs to lead the way in alternative energy.
4) I see where you're going, but I don't know why you only single out the diamond industry.
5) Off-shore drilling needs another look.
6) Agree.
7) Quantum of Solace.
8) What do you suggest?
9) Yes.
10) I'm scared to shit of the media and how much power it has. They are like our Wikipedia-- our go-to source and we (generally) accept it as true.
11) Shrug.
12) Shrugs again.
13) Agree.
14) What?
15) We can fight these through careful legislative oversight.
16) Yes.
17) YES.
18) Interesting how you're reluctant to push capitalistic/democratic systems onto other countries, but you're not as reluctant to push other Western ideals, like the stoppage of child labor.
19) I can attest to this personally.
20) Rise of Neo-Nazism in Eastern Europe, from what I hear.
21) Except soccer. You can never watch enough soccer.
22) Guilty.
23) I listen to what my government tells me. Kidding. Not really.
24) We're still worried about that?
25) I'm not going to even get started on this one.
26) If I can help it, yes I hope so.
27) I guess to a certain extent.
28) Never really thought about this one.
29) But I love being MSG'D
30) Why is this one starred?

James,

please investigate these points further, i love hearing what u have to say.

3. AGREE
4. I just hear a lot of stories about diamond exploitation although I havent investigated too far into it yet. There are definitely many industries out practicing the 'winners' and 'losers' aspect of capitalism
5. off shore drilling needs another look, in what ways?
8. shoots im stumped on this one too, i feel like theres nothing we can do in our society. 'giving to the poor' isnt the most realistic solution. maybe more government attention? more community programs? education?
10. Very good point. i feel pretty dependent on wiki and i accept it as true because it is built on 'information supplied by the people' so it should always be accurate. Im going to think more about this one. great point.
12. what i meant i guess was our wants versus needs. And also over-consumption
13. stumped on this one too
14. government bailouts for the car industry, GM recalling all their electric cars, whatever to keep oil on top.
15. what kinds of legislative oversight?
18. is stoppage of child labor a western ideal? i thought it was a humanitarian type of ideal. unless westerners are the ultimate humanitarians...
20. shit.
21. and gossip girls
24. i thought id throw it in, not sure how it is nowadays
29. CHILDREN
30. because someone mentioned it so i added it in later

I stopped reading at Russia because I couldn't stop laughing!!! ahhahaha, why russia? i don't get it.

I think one other horrific problem is lack of real social interaction due to technology. I'm personally not that great at being elaborate during conversations, and I appreciate the time and thought you put into these posts, because it provokes a lot of reasoning that I would not get otherwise.
