Nippon '10: 1. Setting the scene

This is my first roll of film documenting my stay in Nippon. There is a lot of insight to be had about this intriguing island. Looking past the obvious differences and you will start to notice the slight nuances that sets this country apart.

Its inhabitants experience a very different lifestyle here. Themes that spoke to me: utter respect towards elders, family values, transportation efficiency, an appreciation for nature, avid education, hyper consumerism, skilled labor and an acute attention to detail, social isolation, labor culture, massive population density, and organize chaos.

Needless to say this is my first roll of many, capturing a lot of beauty in places we've skimmed by. I will only be processing 2 rolls of color film here (due to time constraints) and this is a majority of my first roll.

12FV, 2009 expired Fuji Pro400H, Nikon F3HP, Kita-Kashiwa, Kashiwa, and Shibuya.

current: Nippon '10: 1. Setting the scene
next: Nippon '10: 2. Razor Leaves, A photo mission.

@karen that shot is also my favorite of the set. we biked passed the scene and i turned back to capture it. it was beautiful, and using the approaching car's headlight it made the scene even more illuminated in a unique way. I have a lot more bw pics of people to come!
